I just wanted to know what that was in the tree and my zoomy camera is my binoculars, so here goes. Mistletoe is a parasitic plant that is spread by seeds from birds wiping their bills on the tree or elsewise. They are evergreen and don’t grow on vines.
Whole forests of Scots pines are dying out in canton Valais, due to heavy infestations of mistletoe. The parasitic plant bores into the host tree and sucks out its water and minerals. The mistletoe seeds are excreted in the droppings of mistle thrushes, which eat the berries. (swissinfo, Julie Hunt)
